Ok so I have decided that I am taking more pictures on my next project... I am so bad @ getting my before pictures! Is that not one of the most important parts of a project.. come on Maranda.. well enough rambling lets get to the good stuff. So we all know how children never make a mess or accidently draw on your wooden table with permanent marker.. RIGHT??!! LOL just kidding. My point has been made, my children destroyed our table!
Over the past month I have taken time out of my busy schedule and took on this project of renovating my dining table and chairs.
My before picture is horrible, but it will have to do sorry :(.
I searched Pinterest, YouTube, and google for ways that I would want to restyle my furniture and could not find an exact replica of what I wanted. Which is good because I am absolutely in LOVE with the way this turned out. I achieved this look by taking bits and pieces of different things other people did and came up with my own little twist. LOL. btw. the whole time I was hoping and praying that it would not turn out looking like my 6 year old did it.
I probably spent about $25-$30 on this project. I already had some of the supplies from another project I had for Christmas.
Products used:
1. Sander
2. Paint<-- cream
3. Stain<-- Jacobean
4. Paint Brush
5. Sponge brush
6. Drill <-- for removing seat cushion
So quickly I want to add that I do not know the color of this paint... I know.. I know... but I went into Lowes and they already had a bunch of these samples made so I bought three of them and that was all I needed. It is a cream color (like an off white).
I first took my table outside and sanded the top down very good. quick note: SAND WITH THE GRAIN OF THE WOOD. LOL... you guessed it I did not do this on my first go around.. I learned the hard way.. I am a beginner hahaha.. :) ok so once you sand everything down brush all dust off. --> after brushing off dust I wiped down table with alcohol and rag.
After alcohol dried up I started staining. I only did one coat of Jacobean it was the exact color I was looking for, and covered up all those marks on the table ;)..
While the stain dried I whipped out my paint and paint brush and went away with painting the bottom of the table white.
While the table was drying I took the cushions off the chairs and painted them white as well.
-->So originally I was going to put covers on the back of my chairs.. But I was out voted by some family members. Although I was disappointed I think they were right!? What do you think?
now back to the project ;)
While all that paint was drying I decided that I would use some of my left over painters drop cloth to cover my cushions on my chairs. hahaha I previously made couch cushion covers and pillow covers with my new sewing machine I got for Christmas!! I have ALOT of drop cloth left over... I think it worked out great though.. I am still debating on possibly changing the cushion covers to a darker brown leather material... for now this works though!! Very cheap as well!
Ok so by now the paint was dry. I do want to say this paint dried very quick!! I then took my sponge brush and wiped the stain on over the white paint. NOTE: I did this in small sections so it didn't stain it to dark. So once you have a section stained you then want to take your lint free cloth and wipe the stain off. The longer the stain sets the darker it will get. I proceeded to do this all over the table and chairs. Then left them to dry overnight.
I put a clear coat over the top of the table only and did this about 2 days after I stained it. The bottom of the legs on my table I didn't wipe off so its lighter than the top of the table but darker than the rest of the table. I was very pleased with how this turned out! If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me :) hope this inspires you to make something go from Vile to Charming! I have a few more projects that will be added in to my Vile to Charming series so check back :)
